I work in the public sector in health and social care and went into this work as I want to make a difference. I am lucky to work in a team of amazing , inspiring, fun, hardworking dedicated people. I have always tended to work long hours and am now determined to make more time for leisure and relaxation. I would ideally like to meet a partner who shares at least some of my interests. I have strong ethics and this is important in my life. I feel that life can be infinitely more balanced with a partner who enhances life. I am lucky as I have a lot of lovely friends though am always open to meeting more friends.
If I was not working with people I would be working with animals. I became involved in campaigning for animal welfare in childhood and at the age of 14 joined compassion in world farming. I have been vegan but am now pescatarian eating fish as well as a vegetarian diet.
I have an allotment and the garden is wildlife friendly . I have always imagined that in the future I will live in the countryside with a partner , being self sufficient and looking after rescued animals . I have a rescue cat.
I have loved old houses since visiting my grandmother's victorian house since the age of 3 and have lived in old houses since leaving home at the age of 19. I have enjoyed going to auctions though have not been recently and love old furniture and old things. One of the great things about my work that I really value is working with older people and what I learn about life from contact with older people.
I have fairly eclectic taste in music and like to listen to the radio. I particularly enjoy radio 4. I have not had a tv for some years as was finding I tended to be watching programmes I did not really enjoy being tired when getting in from work. I enjoy theatre and cinema. I have a great sense of humour and love to laugh. I used to be nicknamed "smiler" when I was at school and often find I am smiling - I think I am essentially a happy person.
In the summer I love to swim in the sea and at a local lake. I really enjoy being on beaches and walking by the coast. I visit Devon regularly as most of my family are there. I love being outdoors. Over the years I have been on regular holidays with friends often to the lake district and to Cornwall. I have tended to have a week every year in Europe visiting a different place. The past 2 years I went to Gozo and Madeira. I have friends in the USA as worked there after leaving college and have not been over for about 8 years and would love to visit in the not too distant future. I am very environmentally friendly and so conscious of global warming issues so do try to use ferries, buses and trains to travel where I can. I do like to experience other cultures and to learn from travelling. I would love to spend some time out travelling in Europe and when I had a tv saw an amazing series of travel in the USA which was very inspiring.
I have practised yoga over the years and qi gong - taijiwuxigong. I would like to learn to meditate.
