Hello folks.
I'm a walker of wild places, cyclist here and there, and occaisional motorcyclist (it's not a religion to me, but I keep coming back to it). I'm not happy in busy places, but on top of a wild hill or in a wild wood I'll always strike up a conversation with who ever I meet, whether they like it or not :-) .
I could be called ''quiet'', but I''m not short of words.
I've been learning a few of Ray Mears'' bushcraft ways - this year''s highlight was making fire by friction (rubbing two sticks together)- what a satisfying thing to get working after years of trying. (It''s a man-thing I suppose, though not exclusively I''m sure)
I''m a bit of a country-bum I suppose, though I currently work in engineering research somewhere in ''civilisation''. I'm down to only 2 days a week now though, so there's more time to explore new avenues.
I prefer to fix something rather than replace it- it''s a bit of a curse actually- people sometimes don''t understand :-)
Used to have a dog, I want another when this is possible,see above.
I owned a campervan which I used extensively in wild spots in Scotland and north Wales- really a nice alternative to a tent in bad weather. I''d like to have a campervan again, but it isn''t a particularly cheap business. Lapland in winter a few years back is a trip I''d love to repeat- oooohhhh, that light.
Looking for a companion for some or all of these (and who knows what other?) activities- and for the silent moments with or without a big view (you know the ones).
If you''re a horse rider, even better- I''d love to learn in a fully-baked way...
