I love places that speak to the spirit; walking in the wilder places, being in the mountains & by streams & the sea. Being in the moment, whether that's joyous or sad. Stillness as in yoga. Lots to give, lots to receive, lots more to do to create wider joy, happiness & a more peaceful & just planet. I'm leaving this profile here but am not a full member - this may change if /when there is a wider choice of members, within my area
Increasingly I’m leading a simpler life – I’d like to be carbon neutral – (& it doesn’t mean being hair shirted!) I believe the future wellbeing of all the planet’s species rests on our preparedness to be less greedy, less consuming, more compassionate, more community focussed. More “being”, more fully human, & becoming awakened to our true & potential nature. We have major individual & societal “lifestyle” changes to make to deal with the massive challenges facing us as a species (& impacting on all beings).
I still use a car, but increasingly less so & more public transport; cycling in Yorkshire however is not so easy.
I am a practising Buddhist; meditation & mindfulness are an integral part of my life, & Buddhism informs my life direction. But changing habits & putting it all into practice on a daily basis is the real challenge. And it doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy life!
I'm retired & now occasionally teach Mindfulness, & some volunteering work. And I grow a lot of my veg. Previously I worked in Social Services as a practitioner & then manager. And complemented by 2 years volunteering in Nepal.
Friendships are really important to me & I take the time to nurture them. Friends say I’m warm hearted, generous, independent, young at heart, compassionate, with wisdom born from life’s rich seam. I would add spirited, spiritual, open, honest (sometimes may be too much?). And I'm confident & self-doubting by turn (fairly averagely human?)
Activities to share: walking - both short & longer walks (2 years ago I did the Coast to Coast); mountains & wild places; classical music & concerts (Purcell to late Romantics) & folk/world music –Irish, Mali, Senegal); reading (modern novels & literary classics); growing veg, cooking & sharing veggie food; getting back into cinema, & cycling; travel (probably Asia). Photography, being creative. And certainly open to new interests too (may be kayaking?). And I can get lost in the harmonies of acapella singing, & the sense of community it gives as well as the buzz of performing.
And you? Certainly self aware & in touch with your vulnerable side; an honest/open communicator, valuing both closeness & space in relationships. Hopefully enjoying cooking/sharing tasks as well as trips out; & being practical with a screwdriver! Ideally you will be between 57-65
My dream would be to have a small area of land on which to build a “Passivhaus” & grow food (the permaculture approach interests me) & preferably being close to sea or water, & hills, within a small village. And making a contribution to the community. Hopefully together with the support of a soul mate/lover/friend/companion – the many facets of a heart relationship. Being more practical, I'd settle for finding a house with a growing plot within a similar setting. My current house, though lovely, is too big. So I would consider relocating (to an area I can afford!).
The close up photo is from 2 years ago & the others are from my stay in Shetland this year (July 2014). In one I'm peat cutting & the other is at a bus shelter on Unst, Shetland, dedicated to Nelson Mandela.
Why not contact me? it might be the best thing you’ve done. And if you decide not to, then I wish you success in your search. May all beings be happy & free from suffering.
