5 Autumn Activity Ideas
25/10/2017
As the nights draw in, you start to feel the nip in the air and dig out the winter coat, it’s so tempting just to shut the curtains, snuggle up and hunker down for the colder months. But, we’re not quite there yet! There’s so much to enjoy about Autumn; so much to see and enjoy.
If you’re looking for inspiration about how to get out and about together, here are five ideas to try this season.
Have a Woodland Adventure
Do you remember that feeling as a child, kicking crispy leaves underfoot? There’s something about the way leaves crunch that is so satisfying, probably akin only to popping bubble wrap! This autumn, why not pull on those cosy jumpers and boots and head out for a woodland walk? The Woodland Trust has stunning sites to discover country-wide, use their handy search tool to find a woodland trust site wood near you.
History and Heritage
Traditionally, the words ‘National Trust member’ conjured up images of checked car blankets, thermos flasks and tons of tweed and waxed jackets. Whilst the thermos is still a fixture (face it, who doesn’t love a flask of tea?!) the National Trust now attracts a much wider member demographic. And, it seems, for good reason. There are thousands of properties and places of interest to visit all over the UK, many of them with serving afternoon teas and light lunches in a cutesy cafes and ornate tea rooms. There’s something so captivating about wandering around, together, taking in the years of history and natural beauty.
Foraging
Autumn is a delightful time to go foraging. Who knew that our countryside has a bounty of free food on offer? If you’re into wining and dining, why not take things back to nature and find your own food together before an evening of cooking a foraging feast? Wildfood UK run nationwide courses for rookies and there is a wealth of recipes online to inspire you.
Life’s a Beach
Who said beaches were just for summer?! Autumn is a beautiful time to visit UK beaches; grab the warm blankets and pack a hearty picnic and head to the coast for a truly magical date. While away the hours listening to the crashing waves, watching the world go by. If you’re a foodie, why not pack a thermos full of warm homemade soup to keep things toasty and impress your date?
Glamp it up
Why there are some hardened campers still going strong (we salute you!), camping is probably not at top of everyone’s agenda in the autumn months. That said, glamping can make the autumn dream a reality –yurts, wigwams and lodges are an idyllic setting this time of year. Often nestled in quiet woodland locations, homely touches such as heating, microwaves and proper beds means that you can relax and unwind without foregoing comfort. For a truly magical experience, some even have eco-friendly hot tubs; whilst you bubble way sipping champagne, gaze at the stars and enjoy the crisp night air.
How will you be enjoying Autumn this year?
